Obamas Buy $8.1M D.C. Home

Obamas Buy $8.1M D.C. Home

Jun 19 2017

Despite much speculation over whether they would move back to Chicago, Barack and Michelle Obama have decided to stay in the nation's capital, in the very house they have been renting.

A spokesperson for Obama, Kevin Lewis, pointed out that it made sense for the Obama's to buy, rather than rent, given that they will be staying in DC for at least a couple of years, until daughter Sasha graduates from Sidwell Friends School. The neighborhood they have chosen is the affluent and upmarket D.C. neighborhood Kalorama, making other homes there appealing to anyone wanting the ultimate celebrity neighbors.

The Tudor style $8.1 million home is certainly appropriate for a former President. Barack and Michelle Obama like to entertain, and they can do so easily in the 9 bedrooms, 8.5 bathrooms, pleasant reading room and extensive, formal gardens. The connecting kitchen and dining room are light and airy, thanks to the sun that comes in through the Gothic door, and the kitchen boasts stainless steel modern appliances, marble countertops and white cabinets.

A private courtyard can be accessed from the formal dining room, which has traditional flooring and a hardwood ceiling - perfect for Barack and Michelle Obama who love to cook.

The rest of the house doesn't disappoint. The hallway features a beautiful tiled floor in black and white, and there is white crown molding and light hardwood floors on the second floor. Casement windows, built in bookcases and wainscoting add to the Tudor appearance and give this Kalorama home more than a touch of class.
